Cabbies under Surveillance

Posted by ross | E-Mail
Some are pushing to have digital cameras installed on cabs in NYC.  One reason is driver accountability, something that not everyone is in favor of.  Says Bhairavi Desai, president of the Taxi Worker's Alliance, a drivers' advocacy group, "I thought in America the law was you're innocent until proven guilty," Desai said. "This would absolutely be an invasion of privacy. It's intrusive."  Not exactly sure what that means, because it seems that these cameras would help establish innocence or guilt.  It cuts both ways bubba.  In addition, I wonder if an employee of a company has the same privacy rights as individuals outside the work place.  If we were to take his argument at face value, then having surveillance cameras in, say a 7-11 or any retail store, would be an invasion of privacy as well.  That doesn't wash either, homeskillet.  Read the article here.

Paying it Forward - Nascar Style

Posted by ross | E-Mail
As it turns out, Kevin Spacey and that kid who sees dead people aren't the only ones paying it forward.  I realize this is an obscure reference, and one that is not really fresh on anyone's mind, but I need material and will snatch it from anywhere.  With that said, this really is a cool article about helping young racecar drivers.  Check it out.

SUV Buyer's Guide

Posted by ross | E-Mail
This SUV Buyer's Guide is from Edmonds.com, which is an extremely helpful site with tons of information on anything with wheels.  We're about to have our 4th child, and our dependable minivan is approaching the age of undependability, so we are in the market for a new SUV.  Its either that or be the creepy family with the huge 12 passenger van.  What about your suggestions?  Any ideas?
