The Unofficial DMV Guide

Posted by ross | E-Mail
If you have ever crossed swords with the DMV in your state, you know how utterly and hopelessly confusing it can be.  Your worries are over my friend.  Welcome to dmv.org, the "unofficial" DMV guide, "helping you navigate the DMV since 1999."  There is information for every kind of citation under the sun in every state in these United States.  Give it a shot!  The site is quick to note that it is a privately owned website, not operated by any state or federal agency, so keep that in mind.

Winter Weather Driving Tips

Posted by ross | E-Mail
I live in Texas, so every time the temperature nears 40 degrees and below and there is a hint of precipitation in the air, the news channels are ablaze with Winter Storm 2010 features, as if the sky were falling.  Reporters are on site at major intersections to talk about, not traffic accidents, but the possibility of traffic accidents due to bad weather.  As ridiculous as this is, there is some warrant for it, for there is nobody more ignorant than a Texan driving in winter weather.  Take a leisurely drive down any major road or highway during and after a snow storm and you will see the freeway littered with abandoned vehicles who got carried away like Lenny from Of Mice and Men wanting to tend the rabbits but accidentally breaking their necks. Texas drivers, due to the crazy white stuff on the ground seem to forget that reality still exists, and drive as if the roads were normal.  Now I know it might seem strange to you on many levels for me to post Winter Weather Driving Tips from a Dallas Lawyer, but bear with me, the article is worth reading.

Top 11 iPhone Apps for Road Trips

Posted by ross | E-Mail
Being in the middle of a road trip myself as I write this, I have already downloaded half of these.  They are pretty right on.  More to come on the trip in the next couple of days.  Let's just say that it has been a wonderful time.  The car has performed wonderfully, and the kids have been even better.  Find the list here.

Mountain Vehicles

Posted by ross | E-Mail

I'm taking the family on a 2 day excursion into the great Wichita Mountains of Oklahoma.  In preparation, we have packed snacks, gps, a portable dvd player, and an ipod full of music.  But even with all of that, I find myself wishing I had a vehicle from this website.

Mazda's Unveils Upcoming Plans for Green

Posted by ross | E-Mail

In order to meet the increasingly stringent demands of fuel efficiency regulations, Mazda is rolling out some new green technologies that will be featured in future cars.  Car and Driver's article is here.  A short summary: We like Mazda’s strategy for the simple reason that stuff like stop/start, energy regen, and diesel engines can be added without greatly affecting the fun-to-drive appeal of the company’s cars, nor will they add huge levels of cost.  Sounds good to me.

Video: Rolls-Royce Phantom

Posted by ross | E-Mail

I realize that I will never own a Rolls-Royce.  People say you should never say never.  Well I am saying it here.  I will never ever own one.  And the reality is, if you are reading this, you probably won't either.  People who are able to buy a Rolls-Royce rarely find themselves on the internet looking for car deals.  But one can still enjoy looking.  So without further ado, I submit to you the 2009 Rolls-Royce Phantom

More Troubles for Toyota?

Posted by ross | E-Mail
What's going on here?  Are these cars possessed by demons?  According to the New York Times, "Federal regulators said Wednesday that they had received 10 reports of Toyota vehicles accelerating unexpectedly after they were repaired at dealerships." It seems that Toyota has an even longer road ahead of them if reports like these keep coming out.  See the full article here.
